HAVOC đ¨Â
Gareth Evans is one of the most prolific action directors of this generation.
Any fight scene youâve seen on film since 2011 was spawned and inspired by his Indonesian action-crime film series THE RAID. Whether itâs John Wick, the Netflix Daredevil series, or all of these man vs. the world type of movies that have come out as of lateâGareth Evans was the godfather of it all. So when I heard he would be teaming up with Tom Hardy for Netflixâs HAVOC, a story about a down-on-his-luck cop who has to flush out the filth in his stable of officers, I was sold immediately.
This is a simple story that is as clichĂŠ as any action movie can possibly be. HAVOC feels like an experiment to further explore the boundless potential of Gareth Evansâs action stylings rather than fully form any semblance of a plot worth caring for. What you should care about is Garethâs continued brilliance when it comes to inflicting maximum violence in the most creatively choreographed ways possible. In HAVOC he masterfully mixes his arsenal of tactical hand-to-hand combat with gunshots galore that will be adrenaline fuel for action junkies everywhere.
The star power of both Tom Hardy and Forest Whitaker is what will get most people to watch this, but the relentless, high-impact takedowns will be the reason you stay.
HAVOC is a buck wild, blood splattering, ass-kicking bonanza that may not deliver a worthwhile story but does more than enough with its action to keep you locked, loaded, and engaged.
Enjoy!
