Venom: The Last Dance
(2024)

Venom: The Last Dance ⚫️ ⚪️

“Don’t forget me...” is one of the most emotional lines and moments of the movie, but it is also what will happen to the audience as soon as they leave the theatre.

Yes, this movie is forgettable; it’s also the most poorly put together movie in the Venom trilogy. That being said, there’s just something about Tom Hardy’s fully committed performance as this hardheaded, symbiote goofball that I felt worked just as well in this film as it did for me in the first two.

Venom: The Last Dance brings Venom and Eddie Brock back from their short lived trip (literally milliseconds) in Universe 616 (MCU) to their home world where he must now figure out how to live life as a fugitive.

The military from Area-51 aren’t the only ones looking for Eddie, as creatures from Venom’s home planet have travelled across the galaxy to take Venom back so that Knull, the God of the Symbiotes, can be free once again.

Critics are going to tear this movie to shreds (and I can’t say they’d be wrong to do so), but this is a portrayal of Venom I’ve enjoyed from start to finish.

This iteration of Venom reminds me a lot of how I felt when I first watched Deadpool.

The humour (saying the quiet thing aloud), the action (ruthless aggression), and an actor that is so invested in the ridiculousness of it all that you can feel the film gravitate around the performance.

I think the main issue with this trilogy is that Venom (like Deadpool) is at his best when he gets the chance to play alongside Marvels rogues gallery of heroes and villains. Expanding the world of Symbiotes is what this film chose to do, yet it felt rushed and unearned, especially when bringing in a Thanos level threat like Knull with little to no payoff.

Tom Hardy has addressed he’s interested in coming back, and this movie being a surprising hit at the box office with a $175million in sales over its global opening weekend (with a $120million budget) makes me believe this isn’t the last we’ve seen of this dynamic duo.

And if that is the case, then the Knull tease could have huge ramifications for both the future of Sonys Spider-Verse and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Not only is Knull connected to the Celestials, but he can travel the multiverse at ease. So him being trapped for as long as he has would be the perfect scapegoat for why he hasn’t shown up yet while tying in story points in the MCU that need a bit of work *cough* The Eternals *cough*.

Venom: The Last Dance isn’t put together as well as the first film, it doesn’t have the Carnage factor to play off of like the second film, but Tom Hardy’s stronghold over Venom continues to be the reason I will unapologetically return to this series over and over and over again.

Enjoy!
